Goal of Physical Education:
To encourage each student to develop a lifestyle based upon
healthy behaviors. By providing instruction in a wide variety
of activities and concepts in the areas of conditioning and physical
fitness, individual and dual sports, team sports, rhythms and
dance, gymnastics, and outdoor activities, we hope to achieve
this goal.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping the Physical
Education Department achieve these goals. Please feel free
to contact us at any time, especially if your child encounters
any problem specific to activity in the PE Program. (770.740.7090)
Dress-out Policy:
Purpose -
- To emphasize proper hygiene.
- To eliminate any potential injury due to inappropriate
dress.
All students participating in Physical Education classes
MUST make a CHANGE OF CLOTHES and are expected to participate
fully in all planned activities.
It is strongly recommended that a student purchase a TRMS
PE uniform, however, clothes may be brought from home as long
as the T-shirt is a plain gray or white shirt and the shorts
are green. Tennis shoes and socks are also part of the
PE uniform.
To insure that your child's uniform is not "lost",
ALL students will be required to have their name VISIBLE on the
FRONT AND BACK of their shirts and on the FRONT of their shorts.
This includes any clothing brought from home that will be used
for the PE uniform. Your child will receive a dress-cut
if their name is not on their uniform.
Students will not be allowed to wear uniforms belonging
to someone else!
If a student fails to provide an appropriate change of
clothes for class, the student will still be expected to participate
in the activity regardless of clothing being worn.
Rental Uniforms:
Those students who inadvertently forgot to bring proper clothing
for class will be allowed to rent a uniform from the PE department.
The cost will be $.50 ($.25 for the shirt and $.25 for the shorts)
Locker Room:
Lockers and locks are provided by the PE Dept. on a rental
basis. In most cases students will be required to share
a locker, so it is wise to choose a responsible locker partner.
A staff member will be available in the locker room at all times
and the doors will be locked during class activities. However,
each student is responsible for taking care of their locker and
its contents. A lock combination will be given only to
the person(s) assigned to the locker, it is the student's
responsibility to memorize their combination and to NOT give
their combination to anyone other than their locker partner!!
The PE staff is not responsible for lost or damaged items not
properly stored in the locker room.
Routine locker checks may be made by the PE staff or the
school administration without prior notice.
Grading Policy:
Students will be graded in Physical Education in the following
three areas:
- Student Participation - this includes sportsmanship, teamwork,
citizenship, and skill improvement.
- Knowledge Testing - this includes skill tests and written
tests.
- Dressing Out - this is a demonstration of personal hygiene
and safety habits.
Non-participation Procedure
While the PE Department strongly believes in the benefits
of daily physical education classes, we understand that, from
time to time, a student will not be able to participate for various
reasons. For such times, it is the responsibility of the
student to provide a note, signed by their parent(s), explaining
the situation. Non-participation, with a parent's note,
is allowed for up to 3 (three) consecutive days. If longer
exemption from participating is necessary, a doctor's not will
be required.
A note from home will excuse a student from active participation,
but does not excuse a student from dressing out.
Discipline Policy
Student Behavior - During periods of organized instruction,
each students is expected to conduct him/her self in an orderly
fashion which will not distract from the learning process of
classmates. Disruptive, disobedient and disrespectful
students will be disciplined in the following manner:
- 1st offense - a private conference with the student
- 2nd offense - a PE note may e sent home to parents or
guardians and a teacher-assigned after-school detention may be
given.
- 3rd offense - the student will be sent to the Assistant
Principal's office.
