| What is self esteem?
It's your feeling of self-worth. That picture of yourself you have in your head. What's your picture??
Let's work on feeling good, ok?
Self-esteem affects your life!
It's never too late!
If you have heard positive things about yourself and you believe it, no doubt you have hig self-esteem. If you have heard negative comments all the time, you might have low self-esteem. Did you know that you don't have to agree with those negative remarks? If someone calls you a "nerd" for instance... you're not unless you actually agree with them. It's never too late to raise your self-esteem!
Dealing with disappointments! A person with low self-esteem tends to make mountains out of molehills
when something goes wrong. All of us have disappointments. They happen
all the time. Our reaction to them is based on how we feel about
ourselves.
You can change the picture! Start thinking about yourself in positive ways. Even if you think you can't handle figuring out a problem, say to yourself something like "I can deal with this because I've got what it takes." It's ok to ask for help! Be nice to yourself! No sense in getting bummed out by negative thoughts.
Get rid of them! Replace them with positive "image building" statements.
If you are not sure what to say, try a few of these phrases. Repeat
them to yourself several times a day.
Let's set some goals! High self-esteem means you see yourself as successful - one who gets things done. Be it finishing yoru homework, doing your chores, trying out for the school team or just making a friend. Successful people set goals!
Broke again!! If I could just stop buying records, eat'n burgers and going to movies!!! ... No fun!!! .... The Guilt Trip I'm going to stash away 10% of my money every week!! The Realistic Approach People on "guilt trips" tend to set unrealistic goals. |
