Group Presentation: All students are required to do a group presentation on an assigned drug. The students are graded on group cooperation and equal effort, completion of drug worksheet, accuracy of information, visual aids, and meeting the time requirement (5-7 minutes).

Human Sexuality: Males and females will be separated for this unit (approximately 8 days). Coach Franklin will teach the males and I (Ms. Moon) will teach the females. We strongly recommend that every 8th Grade student take part in the Human Sexuality section of the class. However, if a parent prefers for their child not to take the Human Sexuality portion of the 8th Grade Curriculum, the student will be assigned a packet to complete instead. Please contact the school if you have any concerns about the material or would like to review the material that will be taught.

6th and 7th Grade Physical Education

Why P.E.? Click HERE to find out more about the importance of Physical Education to teens.

T.R.M.S. Physical Education Goal: In Physical Education, our goal is to encourage each student to develop a lifestyle based upon healthy behaviors. By providing instruction in a wide variety of activities and concepts in the areas of conditioning and physical fitness, individual and team sports, rhythms and dance, gymnastics, and outdoor activities, we hope to achieve this goal.

Locks and Lockers: Both are provided by the P.E. Department on a rental basis. All students will have their own locker for the year. A staff Member will be available in the locker room at all times and doors will be locked during class activities. However, each student is responsible for taking care of their own lock and locker, memorizing their combination, and not sharing it with anyone. The P.E. staff is not responsible for lost or damaged items not properly stored in the locker room.

Assessment: Students will receive 3 weekly grades--Dressing Out, A Fitness Grade, and a Participation Grade

Mile Run: Students are required to run the mile once every two weeks. During the Fall, students will be allowed to walk-run the mile due to the heat and humidity. Grade is earned by both effort and improvement. Student may miss 1 run do to an excused illness or injury; any additional missed mile runs must be made up.

Fitness Testing: At the beginning and end of each 9 weeks, P.E. students will be tested on the 5 components of fitness to help determine the fitness level of each student. THE FITNESSGRAM IS NOT A COMPETITIVE PROGRAM, but a program that helps the students understand why they should be physically active. Click HERE for more information on the FITNESSGRAM program.

Dressing Out: If a student fails to provide an appropriate change of clothes for class, the student will still be expected to participate in the activity regardless of clothing being worn.

Injured or Sick Students: Students not able to participate in P.E. due to illness must provide a parent note in order to be except. This is good for 3 days of P.E. exception.  If a student is injured and will miss more than 3 days, a doctor's note must be provided. In either of these cases, students are still required to dress out.

Water Policy: Students will be able to bring water bottles for their use during P.E. classes. The water bottles must have the students name visibly written and students may not share with other students. Bottled water may be purchased in the school store in the morning and at the concession stand in the afternoons. Water fountains are available before and after class for the students to drink and fill up their water bottles.
