This year one of my main goals is to incorporate the technique of learning through storytelling. Basically, it's teaching the students basic vocabulary words, acting out or doing the gestures for each vocabulary word, this is called internalizing the words. Then we draw the scenes of the story with stick figures on an overhead projector, repeating the story over and over again. Eventually the kids will tell the story to each other and the last step will be to write the story. It's a lot of fun and it will belong term learning. We laugh a lot and the kids have a lot of fun.

7th Gr. PUERTO RICO - ISLA DEL ENCANTO

We're studying about the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. It's hard to imagine a better spot to explore water and beach activities. Puerto Rico's 300 miles of beaches offer great swimming, fishing, diving, parasailing and windsurfing.

Parents: Have you ever visited Puerto Rico? Do all  Puerto Ricans have U.S. citizenship? If so, since when? What is its political status? What's the currency, pesos or dollars? Have you danced to the rhythm of "Salsa"? Come learn with us. Que chevere!

8th Gr. PERU, ARGENTINA, CHILE

In this unit we're going to take a quick tour to three South American countries. We're going to learn about Foreign Exchange Programs and will be listening to experienced exchange  students, asking questions, and choosing the country they would like to visit. Incredible opportunity!

Parents: Have you ever been on an exchange program? If you have, can we hear from you? Can you come and share your experience with my class? We're trying to learn as much as we can about Hispanic culture which nowadays, affects all of us. What do you think?
