As students claim, I really have taught
for over a "thousand years," so, for now, please assume I'm either crazy
or well on the way. Teaching is my passion, and, as one who represents
the fourth generation of teachers in my family, I come from a long line
of patient relatives who enjoy the excitement of school and the immeasurable
joy of learning. My husband, who was a golf pro when we met, hails
from a family of golfers. In jest, we say our daughter will either
be a golf pro with excellent grammar, or an English teacher who "hits the
links" every afternoon. Actually, we'll let her decide.
As a graduate of Miami University
and Ohio State, I originally taught kindergarten north of Columbus in Galion.
Now, after a difficult day with eighth graders, I wonder if there's any
difference in my experience. Some who are not parents of fourteen-year-olds
doubt this observation. Parents of middle school students often share
this insight. All kidding aside, I would not teach if I didn't enjoy the
challenge, the students, the school, and the wonderful community which
supports my endeavors.
