6th Grade TAG Earth Science

Current Unit: Planetary Forecaster

In this unit students have been recruited by the fictional Cooperative Space Agency to determine how four major factors affect the temperature of Earth and how these factors can be applied to determine a habitable area on "Planet X," a new planet being researched by the agency. These factors are the shape of Earth, tilt of Earth, land/water differences, and elevation. Students completed a lab for each factor to discover how, why, and how much each factor affects surface air temperature. As an extension of this unit we will cover how these factors affect weather. A special emphasis will also be placed on the water cycle and the importance and characteristics of oceans.
