Civil War Internet Project
Day 1:
- Go to
Battle Summaries. Then choose
any 3 battles. List the name of the battle, where it occured, the
campaign, the date(s), the commanders, the estimated casualties, and a
brief description of the battle and it's result.
- Go to Flags of the Confederate
States of America. Read the
disclaimer. What is the controversy? Choose 2 flags, then draw and
describe them.
- Go to Selected
Letters from the Southern Historical
Collection. Choose Images of Battle. Pick 2 letters from 1863,
and 1
letter from a time period of your choosing, for a total of three
letters. Read them and then do the following for each letter: make a
list of words from the "Civil War" era, tell where the person is from,
where the letter was written, where the letter was sent, the time period
it was written, and then summarize the letter.
Day 2:
- Go to the
American Civil War Homepage. Look at the various
links there. List 10 facts about the civil war that you did not already
know.
- Go to One
Union Soldier - His life and Times. Then choose Life
in Camp. Make a schedule of a typical soldier's day, including times and
duties. Then choose The Clothes On Our Backs! List the money it cost to
furnish a soldier in both 1861 and 1986. Finally, choose A Word For The
Sick And Wounded. Compare the statistics on the number of people killed
and those who died of diseases. What is the reason for the big difference?
- Go to The
Gettysburg Address. Look at the two separate
drafts
which show handwritten drafts of the document, and also look at the
transcripts, which are typed. What are the main differences between the
two drafts?
- Finally, choose another resource that you haven't investigated and
prove that you learned something from this activity on the Internet (in
written form!)
