Created by Regina Karow, 7th grade TAG teacher
The purpose of this lesson is to search
and obtain information in preparation for your 20 day trip to
China. You may be able to add to your existing information or
gain new ideas from the tourist information on the Internet. Especially
focus on the following in the Virtual Tourist II site:
1. Begin with clicking on the cities you
are interested in visiting. This will give you specfic information
(as a tourist) that you might not have been able to find in the
media center.
- Use the map to find geography info. and
to trace your route.
- You will need to find the regions in which
your cities are located.
- List any hotels you might want to stay
at in each city you visit.
- Check out the dining facilities available
to you. You will be constructing a menu for your photo album.
- The descriptions are great to help you
write your itinerary. Paraphrase the information. Do not copy
word for word.
- The summary of recommendations (at the
end) is also a great place to find information as a tourist.
Read it!
2. Using Country Information, click on Focus:
China to find out information on the following:
- Arts and Sports: this will give you ideas
for the cultural events that you might want to attend.
- People: Festivals and general information
about the Chinese way of life would be here. Don't forget to
look for ideas for your souvenirs.
3. Use the Travel and Tourism section to...
- Find the current exchange rate of the
dollar to the Yuan. Use the sell column to figure this out.
- Use the Traveler's Health Information
from the CDC to find out what heath precautions you should take
before leaving and while you are in China.
4. Check out other information on the resource
page you think would be helpful based on the China Tour Guide
given to you.
