Careers in Math Lesson

Objective: You are to research a career that involves higher level math skills and organize your results in an electronic portfolio.

Your portfolio must include the following:

1. Your career choice and a description of the job. Be sure to include how math is used in this career.
   • Try Exploring Occupations or Career InformationMagazine for some help.
   • Mathematical Sciences Career Information gives even more ideas of careers that require math.
     
2. A short paragraph about why you choose this career.
   • Kaplan's Career Center offers some good advice on choosing careers.
   • You might want to include results of the The Keirsey Temperament Sorter here!
     
3. The outlook for your career choice.
   • Use the Occupational Outlook Handbook for information.
   • The Top U.S. Markets list provides information about job prospects in various cities.
     
4. Your college choice. The college must be able to prepare you for your career choice. What are the requirements for entrance into this college? (list things such as high school course requirements, GPA, SAT scores, etc.)

5. A resume for an entry level position in your career choice.
   • The resume index may be helpful.
